i didn't think this was the appropriate forum to bring it up in but i do find it absolutely horrifying.

i read about it while sitting in my school's computer lab and all i could think about was some psycho coming in and gunning us down. had to leave immediately.

every time i changed the channel or refreshed a news site, the death toll would rise. called my two friends at virginia tech - thankfully, both had their phones off with voicemails changed to say "don't worry about me, i am uninvolved and alive" or something to the like.

i hope everyone else here that knows anyone on that campus is just as lucky.

i should share a story with you all- today at my school's cafeteria, this douchebag said to his friend: "i was gonna transfer to UCSD but now im thinking about applying to Virginia Tech, i heard they have 32 new spots open, haha"

it was a real head turner, and luckily i did look quick enough to see some professor in the next booth get up, pour his entire huge cup of coke on the guy and say "fuck you, asshole"

some people, man...

I feel sorry for him.. He showed so many signs of psycological trauma, yet he recieved no significant help.
Thats just my random opinion.

Wow. How insensitive and disgusting of that person. I know, wrong forum to bring it up in, but I don't really post in the others. I just talk to these girls really.

Personally, I think that the media has exposed entirely too much information about the situation. They should have never aired the video of him speaking, it should have been used for evidence. I cannot believe how many different videos there are online of people screaming and being killed. There are sick people who get pleasure and inspirtation out of watching that instead of horror, shock and disbelief like the rest of us. What the media has done is given all the other antisocial individuals in our sick society motivation and ideas on what they can do to get even with the people who have hurt them.

Crunchie - I don't really feel sorry for him after he committed this act. I understand he was bullied and people were mean to him; that is all very unfortunate, but he was a really mentally ill person with an very destructive disorder.

True.
Who i really feel sorry for is the victims and their families.
It's so sad..
One of the parents said "make memories with your children, because one day, that's all you will have"

That's horrible.

Another point, how are they to help someone who isn't breaking the law? Unfortunately, the drawback of freedom of speech laws is that until there is an immediate threat, no legal action may be taken against him. There's not way he could have been mandated to go to counseling. He did nothing wrong; I mean, as far as I know he wrote sick things that would disgust most of our society, but he never said he had a plan to do it. As they investigate it more and more, I guess they'll come out with new information on whether it was premediated and whether or not there were signs that he was going to do this.

this has been sooo sad...and i kno its not food or weight loss related, but its just horrible that someone has the potential to kill 33 people. are world has become so horrible, i cant even think of a word to describe it

about a month or so ago, there was a rumor going around our school that someone was planning a shooting on 420 (trying to recreate columbine i heard)

well police investigated, and one kid did have a death list and guns at his house. he was expelled and im not sure what else happened to him.

after the whole virginia shooting, my mom decided to keep me home on friday even though school wasnt canceled. the school said that there would be several extra cops and there would be nothing to worry about, but all of last week i could tell that the whole school administration and staff was really worried.

a friend of mine went to school on friday and said that there was like no one there (classes had to be combined) and nothing happened. but there are more kids rumored of planning shootings for the coming week.

im just scared, because our school and our whole world has such screwed up people in it that shootings can and do happen. people just need to treat people better. its the kids who get made fun of and picked on that end up doing these things

no one deserves to be pushed so far that they would kill others and themselves. this whole thing just disgusts me and i wish i could just do something to help, to change the world

sorry that was long, i just had to tell my story and put in my 2 cents

I understand that everyone is horrified by this, but I think it's important to move past it. What horrifies and shocks you smothers and depresses those of us who were close to these events. How close, I won't really say, but personally, I've felt the aftershocks of fear, panic, racism, and even the initial worry when it came to finding out who was among the dead.

But there's been enough talk about it. Enough media, enough chatter... I understand that everyone is sending their condolences, and I'm not telling you to stop voicing your opinions, but just to think about what's going on and how it continues to affect others, even nearly two weeks after the event.

Yes, it was a bad idea, but no day is guaranteed. It's a good thing that this was only a shooting and not a bomb, or some other disastrous event. People out there have the capability to do far worse.
