Because I have a lot to say and if I said it publicly where I live I would be flogged in a vat of oil and accused of being a witch if I didn't float. On the internet, it's acceptable to be offensively nuts.

I started my blog because my older brother had started a blog. I couldn't let him get away with it. Now I use the blog for writing excercises, storing unusual links, and to generally get the ol' neurons firing.
